Scopes
Scopes decide what your app may do. You pick them when you register the app and list them in the authorization request; the user sees each one before approving. Ask only for what you use — narrow requests get approved more often.
bots:* scope also lets your app list the user's bots and read their status: List Bots, Get Bot Details, Get Bot Status, Get Bot Location, List Bot Groups, List Bot Groups (ids and names). Account

Legacy scopes
Apps registered before the bots:* scopes existed may hold read:bots and write:bots. New apps can't request them, but they keep working:
read:botsorwrite:botsallows any botGET.write:botsallows bot changes — except money (bots:financial), estate actions (bots:sim) and group moderation (bots:groups), which always need their own scope.
Each endpoint page lists exactly which scopes it accepts.
