Getting started
Register an app
Every app needs a client_id (and, for server-side apps, a client_secret). You get them by registering the app from your LifeBots account.
Steps
- Sign in and open Developer → OAuth Applications.
- Click Create Application and fill in the fields below.
- Submit. New apps start as Pending Approval while the LifeBots team reviews them.
- Once approved, open the app to copy its
client_idandclient_secret.
Fields
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Application name | yes | Shown to users on the approval screen. |
| Description | no | What your app does. Also shown on the approval screen. |
| Website | no | Your app's homepage. |
| Redirect URIs | yes | Where LifeBots sends the user back after approval, e.g. https://yourapp.com/oauth/callback. The redirect_uri you send must match one of these exactly. |
| Scopes | yes | What your app may do. Pick only what you use — users see each one. |
| Token expiry | no | How long access and refresh tokens last, and whether refresh tokens are issued. Defaults to never expiring. |
| Application type | yes | Confidential for server-side apps that can keep a secret; Public for browser and mobile apps, which must use PKCE. |
Confidential or public?
| Confidential | Public | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs | On your server | In a browser or on a phone |
| Proves it's your app with | client_secret | PKCE (a one-time secret per sign-in) |
| Example | A web service, a Discord bot | A single-page app, a mobile app |
Never put a
client_secret in browser or mobile code — anyone can read it there. If your code runs on the user's device, register a Public app.Next: the authorization flow.
