What is Trigger Talk?

You can extend your LifeBots bot’s capabilities with the growing library of LifeBots specialized add-ons.

LifeBots add-ons can be purchased in the LifeBots Add-On Store at https://lifebots.cloud/store.

Trigger Talk is a family of three add-ons that let your bot reply automatically when someone says a keyword. You write the rules; the bot watches for the keywords and answers instantly with the response you wrote, day and night, whether or not you are online.

The Three Trigger Talk Add-Ons

All three work the same way. The difference is where the bot listens and where it replies.

Add-On Listens To Replies In Dashboard Entry
Trigger Talk (Local Chat) Local chat around the bot Local chat Trigger Talk (Local)
Trigger Talk (Instant Message) IMs sent to the bot IM to the sender Trigger Talk (IM)
Trigger Talk (Group IM) One Second Life group chat Group chat or IM to the sender Trigger Talk (Group)

[NOTE:] Each add-on is sold separately at L$799 and is purchased per bot. If you want one bot to answer in both local chat and IM, you need both add-ons on that bot.

How a Rule Works

Every Trigger Talk rule has the same required parts:

  • Rule Title: a name for your own reference, such as “Store Hours”. Visitors never see it.
  • Keywords/Triggers: the words or phrases that set the rule off. Type one and press Enter to add it. A rule can hold many, so “hours”, “open” and “when are you open” can all trigger the same answer.
  • Response Message: what the bot says.

All three are required. Leave one out and the form tells you which.

Matching Options

Option Default What It Does
Case Insensitive On “PRICE”, “Price” and “price” are all treated the same.
Exact Match Only Off Left off, the rule fires if the keyword appears anywhere in the message, so price matches “what is the price?” Turned on, the message must be exactly the keyword.

Rule Order Matters

Rules are checked in order and the first match wins. Drag rules by their handle to set priority, putting specific rules above general ones. A rule for refund policy must sit above one for policy.

Personalising Responses

Responses can include the other person’s name. Both styles work and are interchangeable:

Placeholder Alternative Becomes Available In
{firstname} %FIRST_NAME% First name All three
{lastname} %LAST_NAME% Last name All three
{displayname} %DISPLAY_NAME% Display name All three
{mention} A clickable @tag Group IM only
{profile} A clickable profile link Group IM only

The response Hi {firstname}, welcome to the store! becomes “Hi Anna, welcome to the store!”

[NOTE:] Only the Group IM rule form lists these placeholders on screen. They work just as well in the Local Chat and IM add-ons, which simply do not advertise them.

Things That Apply to All Three

You Must Click Save Rules

[IMPORTANT:] None of the three save automatically. Adding, editing, deleting or reordering a rule changes it on screen only. The Save Rules button lights up when there is something to save; if you leave the page without clicking it, the work is lost. Reset Changes discards everything back to your last save.

Rate Limits

Each add-on applies 60 responses per hour and a 5 second cooldown between replies to the same person. These are applied automatically and are not editable. They exist so your bot is not reported as spam, which can get the account suspended.

Import and Export

Rules can be exported to a JSON file and imported into another bot, which saves rebuilding a rule set by hand. The LifeBots Format carries global settings, metadata and a tamper-protection signature; the Standard Format is a smaller, rules-only file. Importing replaces all existing rules and settings on that bot.

Which One Should I Buy?

  • People walk up to your bot in-world and type in chat: Trigger Talk (Local Chat)
  • People IM your bot with questions: Trigger Talk (Instant Message)
  • You want the bot to answer inside a group chat: Trigger Talk (Group IM)

[NOTE:] Trigger Talk answers from a fixed list of rules you write, so it always says exactly what you told it to. If you want free-form conversation instead, look at the AI Add-On. See AI Add-On vs Trigger Talk Add-On for a full comparison.
