What is a Shared Bot Group?
A Shared Bot Group lets you run LifeBots services in your Second Life group without owning a bot. Instead of paying for a Full Bot subscription, you attach your group to one of the LifeBots shared bots and pay only for the services you actually turn on, charged weekly.
This is the cheapest way to get group notices, a greeter, or Discord sync running in your group.
Available services and weekly cost
| Service | Weekly cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Group Greeter/Inviter | L$70 | Sends greetings and group invites to visitors. |
| Group Notices | L$70 | Sends group notices from the LifeBots website. |
| Group Chat Support | L$70 | Monitors and responds to group chat messages. |
| Group Translator | L$100 | Automatically translates group chat between languages. |
| Discord Sync | L$150 | Synchronises group chat with a Discord server. |
The Group Inviter Device
The shared bot is not standing on your land, so the Group Greeter/Inviter service uses a Group Inviter Device that you rez at your location. The device scans for visitors every few seconds and tells the bot to act, so greetings and invites work anywhere you place one.
Pick one up from the LifeBots in-world store at Goa 30, 49, 3599. It comes as a screen on either a horizontal or a vertical stand.
The device is also an advertising screen. It runs a slideshow of your own textures, so it earns its place at your landing point rather than just sitting there as a sensor.
When a visitor comes within range it can:
- Send a group invite, optionally straight into a chosen group role.
- Send an instant message that you write.
- Offer an item such as a landmark, notecard, or gift.
🔹 Each action is set separately and can repeat once, twice, always, or never per visitor. Detection range is adjustable from 1 to 100 metres and defaults to 5 metres. You can also add avatars to an ignore list.
You pick any combination. The Total Weekly Cost is simply the sum of the services you enable, and it is shown to you before you pay.
🔹 For example, Group Notices on its own is L$70 per week. Notices plus a Greeter is L$140 per week. Notices plus Greeter plus Discord Sync is L$290 per week.

When you add a group you choose between two types.
| Shared Bot Group | Personal Bot Group | |
|---|---|---|
| Do you need your own bot? | No | Yes, a Full Bot subscription |
| Cost | From L$70 per service weekly | Covered by your bot subscription |
| Group Greeter/Inviter | Yes | Yes |
| Group Notices | Yes | Yes, unlimited |
| Group Chat Support | Yes | Yes |
| Discord Sync | Yes | Yes |
| Group Translator | Yes | Yes |
| Custom Group Roles | No | Yes |
| Extended Group API access | No | Yes |
| Bot appears as | A LifeBots shared bot | Your own avatar |
🔹 A Shared Bot Group is the right choice when you want group services for one or two groups and do not need a bot of your own in world. If you want the bot to carry your own branding, sit in your store, or run add-ons beyond group services, you want a Full Bot.
What the shared bot does in your group
The shared bot joins your group as an ordinary member and performs only the services you enabled. It is a LifeBots owned avatar, so:
- You do not manage its login, password, or appearance.
- It carries a LifeBots name rather than your own branding.
- It serves other customers' groups at the same time.
- Your group must be free for it to join. See the requirements before you start.
Before you start
Your Second Life group must be open enrollment and must not charge a membership fee. The shared bot joins itself, so it cannot accept an invitation to a closed group, and it will not pay a fee to join.
🔹 Important: You can change your group to open enrollment with no fee, add the group to LifeBots, and then set it back if you wish. The bot only needs the group to be open at the moment it joins.
