How to Use the Bot Inventory Manager
The Inventory Manager lets you browse and work with your bot’s Second Life inventory from the LifeBots website: wear and detach items, organise folders, read notecards, set permissions and empty the trash, all without logging a viewer in.
Opening It
- Visit your LifeBots Dashboard at https://lifebots.cloud/dashboard
- Click My Bots, then choose your bot to open the Manage Bot page
- Click Inventory Manager to open the Bot Inventory Manager
[IMPORTANT:] The Inventory Manager tile is greyed out while the bot is offline. It reads the bot’s live inventory from Second Life, so the bot must be logged in first.
The Four Tabs
| Tab | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| All | The full inventory tree, starting at Root. |
| Favorites | Items you have starred for quick access. Empty until you add some, showing No favorites yet. |
| Recent | Items you have recently interacted with. “Items you interact with will appear here.” |
| Worn | What the bot currently has on. Shows No worn items when it is wearing nothing tracked. |
[NOTE:] The Worn tab is the fastest way to answer “why does my bot look wrong?” It lists what is actually attached right now, rather than what you think you put on it.
Wearing and Detaching
| Action | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Wear | Put on a clothing or body item. |
| Attach | Attach an object at its default point. |
| Attach To... | Attach an object to a specific attachment point you choose. |
| Take Off / Detach | Remove a worn item or attachment. |
| Add to Outfit | Add an item without removing what is already worn. |
| Wear Outfit / Wear Folder (Replace) | Wear an entire folder, replacing the current outfit. |
| Add Folder to Outfit | Add every item in a folder on top of what is worn. |
[IMPORTANT:] Note the difference between Wear Folder (Replace) and Add Folder to Outfit. The first strips the current outfit before dressing the bot; the second layers on top. Using Replace by mistake is the usual cause of a bot suddenly losing its attachments.
Organising the Inventory
- New Folder: create a folder. The dialog shows Creating in: so you can confirm where it will go, and asks for a Folder Name.
- Move to Folder...: pick a destination, then confirm with Move Here. The dialog shows Move to: as you navigate.
- Rename: give the item a New Name.
- Delete and Delete Folder: send items to the trash.
The Trash
Deleted items go to the trash rather than vanishing. From there you can Restore Item to bring one back, Purge Item to remove one permanently, or Empty Trash to clear everything.
[IMPORTANT:] Purge Item and Empty Trash are permanent. Second Life has no undo for this and LifeBots cannot recover a purged item. Restore first if you are unsure.
Working With Items
Notecards
- Read Notecard opens and displays a notecard’s contents.
- Create Notecard or New Notecard makes one, asking for a Notecard Name and Notecard Text.
Creating notecards here is handy for add-ons that send one out, since the item ends up in the bot’s inventory where those add-ons look for it.
Textures
View Texture shows a preview of a texture. If it cannot be displayed you will see Failed to load texture preview.
Gestures and Sounds
- Play Gesture, with Activate and Deactivate to control whether a gesture is active
- Play Sound and Play Inworld to play a sound, with Stop to end it
Landmarks
Teleport sends the bot to a landmark, which is often the quickest way to move a bot to a known spot.
Item Details and Permissions
View Details or Item Details shows an item’s Location, Item UUID and Asset ID. You can Copy UUID or Copy Asset UUID to the clipboard, which is what you need when an add-on or script asks for an item key.
Edit Permissions shows two sets:
| Set | What It Controls |
|---|---|
| Owner Permissions | What the bot itself may do with the item: Can Copy, Can Modify, Can Transfer. |
| Next Owner Permissions | What someone receiving the item may do with it. |
[NOTE:] Next owner permissions matter for anything you plan to hand out. An item that is not copy and transfer can only be given away once, so it cannot be sent to a list of people. If an add-on refuses to send an item, check these first.
Finding Things
Use the search box to filter by name, and the Favorites and Recent tabs for things you use often. Clear Recent empties the recent list. Quick Actions gives you the common operations for the selected item without hunting through menus.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Inventory Manager is greyed out | The bot is offline. Bring it online first. |
| Inventory is empty or incomplete | Second Life sends inventory in stages after login. Wait a few moments and refresh. |
| Worn tab looks incomplete just after login | Worn items are still being reported. It fills in shortly after the bot connects. |
| An item will not wear | Check the item type. Clothing and body parts are worn; objects are attached. |
| Bot lost its attachments | Wear Folder (Replace) was probably used instead of Add Folder to Outfit. |
| Permissions will not change | You cannot grant a permission the item does not already have. A no-modify item stays no-modify. |
| Deleted something by mistake | Use Restore Item from the trash, as long as it has not been purged. |
| Texture preview fails | Some assets cannot be previewed. The item is still usable in-world. |
