How to Setup the Sim Management Add-On

You can extend your LifeBots bot’s capabilities with the growing library of LifeBots specialized add-ons.

LifeBots add-ons can be purchased in the LifeBots Add-On Store at https://lifebots.cloud/store.

This article walks through setting up the Sim Management add-on, which lets you run your Second Life regions from the LifeBots website: scheduled and immediate restarts with resident warnings, ban and access lists, entry rules, region settings and live region controls, all without opening a viewer.

Before You Begin

[IMPORTANT:] Your bot must hold Estate Manager rights on every region you want it to manage. Without them the add-on shows Estate Manager Rights Required and can neither read nor change anything.

To grant them, in your viewer open World > Region/Estate > Estate and add the bot avatar to the Estate Managers list.

The bot also needs to be able to reach the region. Bot Presence shows whether it is currently there.

Getting Started

Step 1: Add Your Sims

  • Visit your LifeBots Dashboard at https://lifebots.cloud/dashboard
  • Click Sim Management in the ADDONS section of the Dashboard left panel, opening the Sim Management Dashboard
  • Select a bot, then add a region under Managed Sims by entering its Region Name
  • Use Working on to switch between regions

[NOTE:] Multi-Sim Support lets you manage up to 10 sims per bot. Each region is configured separately and can be enabled or disabled on its own. With none added you see No Sims Configured; with none selected, No Active Sim.

If the dashboard reports No Bots with Sim Management, the add-on has not been attached to a bot yet.

Step 2: Scheduled Restarts

Regions run better after a regular restart. Open Scheduled Restarts and Add a schedule. With none set up the panel reads No restarts scheduled, and reassures you that “Restarts run even while you are away.”

Field What to Set
Name (optional) A label so you can tell several schedules apart.
Day of Week Which days it runs. Use One-off instead for a single maintenance window.
Hour (SLT) and Minute The time it runs.
Restart Delay (seconds) The grace period before the restart actually happens.
Enable this schedule Leave on to make it live.

[IMPORTANT:] Restart times are in SLT, which is the clock your residents already use. Do not convert to your own timezone.

Each schedule can be paused and resumed rather than deleted, showing as Paused while stopped, and offers Edit and Delete schedule. Deleting asks you to confirm.

Advance Warnings

Under Advance warnings, add as many warnings as you like. Each has:

  • Minutes before: how long ahead of the restart it is sent
  • Warning message: what residents see
  • A scope option, Send to every region in the estate, which broadcasts estate-wide rather than to the single sim

A sensible set is 15 minutes, 5 minutes and 1 minute. Give people enough notice to save their work and get clear.

Step 3: Restarting Right Now

For an immediate restart, use Restart Region. Set the Countdown length and the Message sent to the region, then Start restart process.

[IMPORTANT:] An immediate restart asks you to type the region name to confirm. This is deliberate friction: restarting the wrong region disconnects everyone on it. Read the name in the prompt before typing it.

There is also a Return to original location after restart option, so your bot goes back where it was rather than being left wherever the restart dropped it.

Step 4: Who Can Enter

The Who can enter panel controls access to the region:

Setting Effect
Anyone can visit The region is open to everyone.
Allow only residents and groups on the allow list A private estate. Only your access list and allowed groups get in.

Under Groups allowed in you can nominate Second Life groups by Group UUID whose members may always enter, which is the usual way to run a members-only or staff-only region. Each entry offers Remove this group’s access.

Step 5: Ban and Access Lists

Sim Management keeps your estate ban list and access list on the website, so you can search and work through them properly.

To ban someone, enter their Avatar Name and optionally a Reason (optional, kept in your records). Tick Apply across all estates you manage to ban them everywhere at once.

Use Search banned users and Search allowed users to find entries in long lists. Empty lists show The ban list is empty, No Banned Users or No Access List.

Clearing Out Dead Accounts

Second Life caps how many bans an estate can hold, so abandoned accounts are worth clearing. Each entry offers Check whether this resident still has an SL account, and results are marked Checked, SL Banned or Removed. Entries you have dealt with can be dismissed from the list.

Entries also show whether they were Read from the region itself, not added here, which distinguishes bans that already existed in Second Life from ones you added through LifeBots.

Offline Management

Offline Management lets you edit ban and access lists even when the bot is offline. Your changes are applied to the region once the bot reconnects.

[NOTE:] While the bot is offline you will see “The bot is offline. This list is the last known state.” That is a snapshot, not live data. Someone may have changed things in-world since.

Step 6: Live Region Controls

Region Controls act on the region right now. Nearby residents lists who is present, or reports Nobody else is here.

Control What It Does
Region message Send a message to everyone in the region. Send estate-wide broadcasts across the whole estate instead.
Send home Teleport one resident to their home location.
Send everyone home Clear the region entirely.
Eject from region Remove a specific resident.

[NOTE:] A resident’s listed position may be marked “approximate, this resident is out of detail range”. Their presence is real; the coordinates are a best guess.

Step 7: Region Settings

The region settings mirror the viewer’s Region/Estate panel, grouped for clarity:

Group Settings
Terrain & Building Block Terraform
Movement & Physics Disable Flying, Allow Damage, Restrict Push
Land & Ownership Block Land Resell, Allow Parcel Changes, Block Parcel Search
Limits Agent Limit, Object Bonus
Maturity Rating PG (General), Mature or Adult

Changes are not live until you click Apply Settings or Save Changes. The panel shows Unsaved changes while anything is outstanding.

[NOTE:] Read each label carefully. Some are phrased as a block (Block Terraform, Block Land Resell) and some as a permission (Allow Damage, Allow Parcel Changes), so ticking them does opposite kinds of thing.

Step 8: Activity Logging

Activity Logging records what was done and by whom. Use Search logs, Filter by Action and Filter by Status to narrow it down. Empty results show No Activity Logs or No Matching Logs.

This is where you look when a setting changed and nobody remembers doing it.

Keeping Data Fresh

Two options control how the panel stays current:

  • Auto-refresh: keep the displayed data updating
  • Auto-sync on connect: re-read the region’s settings whenever the bot reconnects

If a panel reports Region settings not loaded or Estate settings not loaded, the bot has not read them yet. Re-sync before changing anything, so you are editing what the region actually holds.

Troubleshooting

Problem What to Check
Estate Manager Rights Required The bot must be an Estate Manager on that region. Add it from a viewer under World > Region/Estate > Estate.
Region settings not loaded The bot has not read the region yet. Check it is online and present, then re-sync.
Changes do not reach the region The bot was offline. Ban and access changes apply when it reconnects; other settings need the bot present.
Restart did not happen Check the schedule is enabled and not paused, the SLT time is what you meant, and the bot was online.
Residents got no warning No advance warnings were configured, or their scope did not cover the affected sim.
Restart button will not activate You must type the region name exactly to confirm.
That date and time has already passed A one-off schedule must be in the future.
Ban will not add The estate ban list may be full. Use the account check to find dead accounts and remove them.
Ban list looks out of date The bot is offline and you are seeing the last known state.
Cannot add more regions The limit is 10 sims per bot. Use another bot with its own add-on.
Settings reverted You did not click Apply Settings or Save Changes, or something changed the region in-world and a sync pulled that value back.
Resident position looks wrong They are out of detail range, so the position is approximate.
