How to Setup a Shared Bot Group

This guide walks through adding a Second Life group to LifeBots as a Shared Bot Group, so you can run group services without owning a bot.

Before you begin

Check both of these first, or the bot will not be able to join:

  • Your group must be set to open enrollment (anyone can join).
  • Your group must not charge a membership fee.

You will also need enough LifeBots Wallet balance to pay for the first period, or you can pay in world at a LifeBots terminal.

1. Start Adding a Group

  1. Go to the Dashboard.
  2. Open Groups and click Add Group.

2. Select the Group Type

  1. On Select Group Type, click the Shared Bot Group card. It is marked Starting at L$70 per service weekly.

🔹 The other card, Personal Bot Group, is marked Requires Full Bot Subscription and is only for groups you want to run on your own bot.

3. Select a Shared Bot

  1. Under Select Shared Bot, choose one of the available LifeBots shared bots.

🔹 If you see No Shared Bots Available, every shared bot is currently offline or full. Try again shortly, or contact support.

4. Choose Your Group

Find the Second Life group you want to add. You have two ways to do it:

  • Search for a Group then type into the Group Name or UUID field. Results are ordered with the best matches first.
  • Add by Group UUID then paste the exact group key into the Group UUID field. This jumps straight to that one group.

Click the group to select it. It then appears under Selected Group.

🔹 To find your group key in world, open the group profile in your Viewer and use Copy Key.

5. Configure Group Services

Under Select Services, switch on the services you want:

  • Group Greeter/Inviter (L$70 weekly) sends greetings and group invites to visitors.
  • Group Notices (L$70 weekly) sends group notices from the website.
  • Group Chat Support (L$70 weekly) monitors and responds to group chat messages.
  • Group Translator (L$100 weekly) automatically translates group chat between languages.
  • Discord Sync (L$150 weekly) synchronises group chat with a Discord server.

The Total Weekly Cost updates as you toggle each one, and the page reminds you that services will be charged weekly.

6. Pay and Finish

  1. Click Proceed to Payment.
  2. Choose your renewal period and pay with your LifeBots Wallet balance, or select Pay In-World to pay at a terminal.
  3. If you have a coupon, enter it in the Coupon Code field before paying.

Once payment completes, the shared bot joins your group and your services start.

7. Set Up the Group Inviter Device (Greeter Service Only)

If you enabled Group Greeter/Inviter, you need a device in world for it to work. The shared bot is not on your land, so the device is what senses your visitors.

Get and rez the device

  1. Visit the LifeBots in-world store at Goa 30, 49, 3599 and pick up a Group Inviter Device. It comes with a horizontal or a vertical stand.
  2. Rez it on your land where visitors arrive, such as your landing point or shop entrance.
  3. It registers itself with LifeBots on rez. There is no key or code to copy.

Configure it on the website

  1. Open your group on the LifeBots website and go to Group Inviter.
  2. Turn on the actions you want when a visitor is detected: Group Invite, Instant Message, or Item Offer. Each one is separate.
  3. For each action set how often it may repeat for the same person: once, twice, always, or never.
  4. Set the detection range, from 1 to 100 metres. The default is 5 metres.

Point the device at your group

Touch the device to open its owner menu, then:

  1. Click Select Group and pick your group from the list.
  2. Click Test Invite. You should receive the group invite, IM, or item offer you configured. This confirms the whole chain is working before any real visitor sees it.

🔹 If the menu says "No groups available. Please enable GroupInviter for at least one group on the website", the website side is not switched on yet. Go back and enable it for the group first.

Use it as an advertising screen (optional)

The device doubles as a slideshow screen, so it can advertise while it works. From the same menu, click Slideshow to:

  • Set the speed to 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 or 60 seconds per image.
  • Choose Sequential or Shuffle order.
  • Turn fade transitions on or off.
  • Show or hide the default LifeBots image.

Drop your own textures into the device's contents, then click Refresh to pick them up. Use Set Logo to place your logo on the frame.

🔹 Start with a small detection range. A wide range on a busy parcel invites passers by who never intended to visit you, and people remember being spammed.

🔹 You can add or remove services later from the group's settings. Adding a service mid period charges the difference straight away.

✅ Done! Your group now has LifeBots services without a bot of your own.
