How to Send Group Notices
Group Notice lets your bot send notices to your Second Life groups, either once or on a repeating schedule. This is the built-in notice tool, available to any bot that is in a group with the right role.
Before You Begin
Your bot must be a member of the group, in a role that has the Send Notices ability. Without it the page reports No Permission to Send Notices, or No Groups Available for Notices if none of your groups qualify.
The Group Notice entry only appears in your sidebar when you have at least one group set up for notices. See How to Add a Group if you have not added one yet.
Opening the Page
- Visit your LifeBots Dashboard at https://lifebots.cloud/dashboard
- Click Group Notice under GROUPS in the left panel
The Group Notices page lists what you already have, split into One-Time Notices and Periodic Notices. Use Search Notices and Sort notices to work through a long list. Empty sections show No One-Time Notices Found or No Periodic Notices Found.
Creating a Notice
Click Create Notice.
Step 1: Notice Content
| Field | Limit |
|---|---|
| Subject | ASCII characters only, 75 character limit |
| Message | ASCII characters only, 512 character limit |
[IMPORTANT:] These limits are counted in bytes, not visible characters, and they come from Second Life rather than LifeBots. Plain English letters, digits and basic punctuation cost one each. Accented letters, curly quotes, emoji and non-Latin scripts cost two to four each, so a message that looks well within 512 characters can still be rejected. If the counter drops faster than you expect, that is why.
Step 2: Choose the Groups
Select which of your groups should receive the notice. Only groups where the bot can actually send notices are offered.
Step 3: Pick the Notice Type
Under Select Notice Type:
- One-Time Notice: sent once, at the Date and Time you set
- Periodic Notice: repeats on a schedule
Step 4: Set the Schedule
All times are SLT/Pacific Time. The form displays the Current SLT/Pacific Time so you can check what you are entering against the live clock.
[IMPORTANT:] This is not your local timezone and it cannot be changed. Convert before you enter a time, or your notice goes out at the wrong hour.
Repeat Frequencies
Periodic notices offer a wide set of options under Frequency:
| Group | Options |
|---|---|
| Daily and interval | every day; every 2nd day; every 3rd day; every 4th day |
| Weekly | weekly; biweekly; on specific days of the week |
| Monthly by date | on a specific day each month; on the 1st; on the 15th; on the last day; every 1st and 15th |
| Monthly by weekday | on specific weekday of month |
Choosing on specific days of the week gives you tick boxes to Select days of week to send notice. Choosing on a specific day each month gives you a Day of Month picker.
On a Specific Weekday of the Month
This one is worth knowing about. Choose on specific weekday of month and you get two pickers: Which occurrence (First, Second, Third, Fourth or Last) and Day of week.
Together they express schedules like “the first Saturday of every month” or “the last Friday of every month”, which is how most recurring events are actually described.
[NOTE:] Prefer on the last day of each month over picking the 31st, and Last over Fourth for weekday schedules. Months differ in length, and some have five of a given weekday.
Step 5: Attachment (Optional)
You can attach an item to the notice using Select Notice Attachment, which browses the bot’s inventory.
[NOTE:] The item must be in the bot’s inventory, not yours, and it must be copyable and transferable. Give it to the bot avatar in-world first. See How to Use the Bot Inventory Manager.
Group Notice vs the Calendar Notice Add-On
Both send group notices. They differ in how you work with them.
| Group Notice (built in) | Calendar Notice (add-on) | |
|---|---|---|
| View | Lists of one-time and periodic notices | A month calendar showing notices in place |
| Repeat options | Wider set, including specific weekday of month | Every day, weekdays, weekly, monthly, custom interval |
| Several times per day | One time per notice | Multiple delivery times on one notice |
| Edit one occurrence of a series | No | Yes |
| Group collections | No | Yes |
| Cost | Included | Paid add-on |
If you send a handful of notices, the built-in page is fine. If you run a busy calendar of events, need the same notice at several times a day, or want to skip a single occurrence without rebuilding the schedule, the Calendar Notice add-on is what you want.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to Check |
|---|---|
| No Groups Available for Notices | None of your groups have a bot with the Send Notices ability. |
| No Permission to Send Notices | The bot’s group role lacks the Send Notices ability, or your account lacks rights. |
| Group Notice missing from the sidebar | It only appears when you have a group set up for notices. |
| Character counter drops faster than expected | Non-ASCII characters cost several bytes each. Use plain text. |
| Notice arrived at the wrong hour | Times are SLT/Pacific. Check against the current SLT shown on the form. |
| Notice did not send | The bot was offline at the scheduled time, or lost its group role. |
| Monthly notice skipped a month | The chosen day does not exist in that month. Use the last day of each month. |
| Attachment did not arrive | The item must be in the bot’s inventory and be copy and transfer enabled. |
